Cases Reported to and Attended by the Ministry in July 2020

Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services received and attended to a total of 170 cases in July 2020.

Violence against children

  • A total of 93 cases were reported to and attended regarding violence against children in July 2020.
  • The most frequently reported cases in this category involve cases of sexual abuse, of which 36 cases were reported during this period.
  • Other forms of violence against children include 20 cases of physical abuse, 20 cases of negligence, 7 cases of witness to domestic violence, 4 cases of emotional abuse, 2 cases of exploitation, 2 cases of victims of cyber bullying and 1 case of victims of bullying and harassment.

Gender based violence and domestic violence

  • A total of 29 cases involving gender-based violence and domestic violence were reported to and attended in July 2020.
  • The most frequently reported cases involve forms of emotional abuse, of which 12 cases were reported during this period.
  • Other cases reported in this category involve 11 cases of physical abuse, 3 cases of sexual abuse, 1 case of withholding or damage to property, 1 case of controlling behavior and 1 case of intimidation.

Family issues

  • A total of 19 cases were reported to and attended in this category in July 2020.
  • Reports include 7 cases of parenting issues, 6 cases of child maintenance and 5 cases of custody or access.

Care and support for elderly and persons with disabilities

  • A total of 11 cases were reported to and attended in this category in July 2020.
  • Reports include 8 cases of care and support for persons with disabilities and 3 cases of care and support to the elderly.

Self-harm and Suicidal behavior:

  • 10 cases regarding self-harm and suicidal behavior were reported to and attended in July 2020.
  • Reports include 6 cases of suicidal behavior, 2 cases of suicidal thoughts and 2 cases of self-harming

Children in conflict with the law

  • A total of 3 cases of this category were reported to and attended in July 2020.
  • Reports include 1 case of physical assault or aggression.

Behavioral problems of children

  • A total of 3 cases were reported to and attended regarding behavioral problems of children in July 2020.
  • Reports include 2 cases of running away.

Child rights violations

  • A total of 02 cases were reported to and attended in this category in July 2020.
  • Reports include 1 case of denial of birth registration and 1 case of refusal for access to education.
